Bob Fecteau’s Biography

Mr. Robert Fecteau (USA, Ret.) is Chief Information Officer for BAE Systems Information Solutions Business. In this capacity, Mr. Fecteau reports directly to the President of Information Solutions.

In this position, Mr. Fecteau focuses on the efficiency and effectiveness of enterprise IT operations and solution in support of both internal and customer business processes for BAE Systems Inc. In this regard, Mr. Fecteau ensures that the Information Solutions’ infrastructure is consistent with Federal, DoD, and Intelligence Community architecture frameworks. Embedded in these framework definitions is a focus on data, security, collaboration, and communications. Mr. Fecteau is also concerned with tools and practices that enable performance measurement, portfolio management, and total cost of ownership (TCO) and then translating the resulting intellectual property into business discriminators.

Mr. Fecteau previously served as a Department of the Army civilian, as Chief Information Officer, United States Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) managing all enterprise information management and information technology programs. In 2001, he won the Department of Defense’s Chief Information Officer Award for Outstanding Achievement in Information Management.

Mr. Fecteau holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Corpus Christi State University and a master’s degree in Information Systems Management from Syracuse University.

Tim Harvey’s Biography

Tim recently resigned from his position as Executive Vice President of Shared Services & Chief Information Officer of Hilton Hotels Corporation. In 2000, with the Hilton acquisition of Promus, Tim became Hilton’s Senior Vice President & CIO, promoted to EVP in 2007 with increased responsibilities over the company’s sales & reservations division. In 2008, Tim’s responsibilities were expanded to include commercial revenue. In addition to his role overseeing technology and distribution this would now include the management of the Hilton Honors program and Hotel Performance, with his new title Executive Vice President of Shared Services & CIO.

Tim became Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Promus Hotels in 1995, followed by EVP & CIO with the business expansion due to the merger between Promus and Doubletree in 1998.

In the 1980s, Tim held a variety of positions with Holiday Inn which became Promus Companies and Promus Hotel Corporation.

Tim holds a BBA from Delta State University, where he was also an All American baseball player (outfield), and he has an MBA from the University of Memphis.

Nirup Krishnamurthy’s Biography

Most recently, Nirup was the Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at The Northern Trust Company. During every year of Nirup’s tenure there, Northern Trust was listed in the top 100 in the Information Week 500 ranking of the Top Innovators in Business Technology, including a placement at number 12 in the most recent ranking released in September 2008. Northern Trust was also consistently ranked among ComputerWorld’s 100 Best Places to Work in IT during Nirup’s time with the bank.

From 1990-2005, Nirup held various positions in the Information Services Division at United Airlines, and for the last three years with the airline, he was Vice President and Chief Information Officer. He has been lauded as one of the key leaders who led the company out of Chapter 11.

Nirup has also worked as a special advisor to Cognizant Technology.

Previously, Nirup has held board positions at multiple companies in his country of origin, India.

Nirup has a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the State University of New York.

Richard Nolan’s Biography

Richard (Dick) Nolan serves as the Philip M. Condit endowed Chair in Business Administration at the University of Washington’s School of Business, where he is evolving a set of workable management principles for the information economy. Prior to joining the UW faculty, Dr. Nolan was the William Barclay Harding Professor of Management of Technology at Harvard Business School.

Nolan’s previous experience includes several roles within Boeing’s commercial airplanes and defense operations as an applied mathematician and financial systems manager, before becoming a systems analyst for the Department of Defense.

A founder and chairman of consulting firm Nolan, Norton & Co. (acquired by KPMG), he contributed a great deal to the thinking on the role of IT (Information Technology) in transforming organizations and markets.

His 1995 Harvard Business School press book Creative Destruction: A Six-Stage Process for Transforming the Organization (with David C. Croson) heralded many of the organizational issues of the Internet age and sold over 15,000 copies in six languages.

Nolan earned his B.A. from the University of Washington in Production and Operations Research in 1962, and his M.B.A and Ph.D. in Operations Research in 1963 and 1966, respectively.

Sheleen Quish’s Biography

Sheleen Quish is the Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Ameristar Casinos. In that capacity, she leads the organization’s information technology functions at the Las Vegas corporate office and at the Company’s properties.

Prior to her time at Ameristar, Sheleen was CIO-At-Large with her firm Box 9 Consulting, working with a number of companies on IT challenges including business process re-engineering, IT department transformation and project review and rescue.

Prior to her time at Box 9, Sheleen was Vice President and Global CIO for US Can Company, where she was responsible for the global infrastructure, three data centers and a wide array of applications to support the $750 million company in 24 locations in six countries.

Sheleen also served as Senior Vice President, Insurance Operations and Information Technology with Unitrin, Inc.’s Life & Health Division, where she consolidated the platforms, systems applications and business operations across three companies in the life and health division; EVP Corporate Planning and Information Services with The Signature Group, an affinity marketing company, where she led major business systems integrations and strategic initiatives; and Senior Vice President and Partner of Bricker & Associates consulting firm. In addition, she was Executive Vice President at Southeastern Mutual Insurance Company. Among other responsibilities, she managed the integration of operations of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield organizations of Kentucky and Indiana.

Quish holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of New Rochelle (New York). She is an Emeritus member of the editorial board of CIO Magazine, and has been a prolific writer and speaker in a variety of industry forums. She has also been a Fellow of the Cutter Business Technology Council, and Senior Consultant with Cutter’s Sourcing & Vendor Relationships and Business-IT Strategies practices.

Torsten Wenell’s Biography

Torsten is currently a lecturer and a member of the IT Management research team at The IT University in Gothenburg Sweden. He leads a research project to formulate methods and practices for the IT industry from which participating companies implement processes to better deliver business value while also lowering IT cost of operation.

In 1997, Torsten founded Provment, based on the realization that the open systems world needed the same management services that were available on the mainframe – services that are required to run an IT operation efficiently. During Torsten’s tenure at Provment, a Harvard Business School case was written on the company entitled, “Postgirot Bank and Provment AB Managing Cost of IT Operations”, highlighting Torsten’s unique approach to managing IT operation costs. In 2007, Provment was purchased by the American firm, SantoriTech.

Prior to his time with Provment, Torsten was the CIO of Svenska Finans where he created a new IT department delivering controls and value to the company in the process.

Prior to Torsten’s time at Svenska Finans, he spent 18 years at IBM where he had several management positions. For the majority of his time with IBM, he was in charge of development and marketing of standard applications in Sweden, and later the entire Nordic area. The last four years at IBM he was appointed to the position of Account Manager to the Public Sector.

Throughout Torsten’s career, he has also consulted companies large and small.

Torsten has spoken extensively on topics such as the “Effective management of Outsourcing IT”, “Business Evaluation of IT cost” and similar topics.

Mukul Kumar’s Biography

Mukul is the Managing Director of the IT Practice at the Corporate Executive Board. In that role, he has grown the Infrastructure Advisory portfolio from $10 million to $30 million (~ 600 clients).

In addition to his current role, Mukul’s past roles at CEB include time spent as Practice Manager & Chief Research Officer, Infrastructure Executive Council (IEC) and Research Director, CFO Executive Board.

Prior to joining CEB, Mukul was an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company, where he developed and implemented strategies in various industries including financial services, telecommunications, industrial, and not-for-profit.

Prior to his time at McKinsey, Mukul was a lecturer in International Economics and Macroeconomics for graduate courses at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. He has also spent time as a consultant to the World Bank.

In addition to the many studies that Mukul has authored or co-authored at CEB, he has also written numerous papers and books on topics ranging from technology to business, to economics.

Mukul has a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University, and a BS in Mathematics and Economics from MIT.

Bruce Parker’s Biography

Bruce Parker is Managing Director of IT Management Group, an IT consultancy.

Until late August, 2008, Bruce Parker was Chairman & CEO of AirNet Systems, Inc. a specialized express cargo airline. He remains on the board of that company.

From December 1999 until his retirement in July 2002, Parker was an Executive Vice President at Sapient, responsible for corporate development, international growth, subsidiaries and relationships with multiple large clients. He has been a board member of that company since 1995, and continues to serve on the board today.

From 1997 until 1999, Bruce served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at United Airlines. Under his direction, the company introduced United.com. During his tenure, he also created and organized several joint ventures in distribution, including Orbitz, and participated in forming the Star Alliance technology organization.

From 1994 to 1997, Bruce was Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Ryder System Inc. and, previously, was a Vice President of American Airlines and Sabre Computer Services.

Bruce holds an MBA from the University of Kansas.

John Boushy’s Biography

John Boushy joined Ameristar as president and was subsequently appointed CEO and president and elected to the company’s board of directors.

Prior to joining Ameristar, he served as a senior executive at Harrah’s Entertainment, holding various executive positions within Harrah’s and its prior parent companies, Holiday Corporation and The Promus Companies. John most recently served as Harrah’s Executive Vice President, Project Development, Design & Construction. Prior to that, John held the position of Senior Vice President Concept Development and Chief Integration Officer where he had executive level responsibility to plan and execute all aspects of the business combination of Caesars Entertainment with Harrah’s Entertainment.

As SVP, Operations, Products and Services and CIO, John established corporate operating functions in order to deliver enhanced capabilities to all company various properties, enhancing delivery of service and competitiveness, while supporting the rapid growth through property expansions and company acquisitions. At the same time, John led the maturing of the IT function, creating greater alignment between IT and the business, thereby driving incremental business value from the business/IT projects.

As Harrah’s CIO, John was credited for various technological advances that today power the company’s customer service and financial performance. As vice president of strategic marketing for Harrah’s, John developed numerous customer-centric innovations, including 800-HARRAHS and the industry’s first, nation-wide customer loyalty program. Under his leadership, the company issued the first annual survey of casino entertainment, which continues today as The Profile of the American Casino Gambler.

In 2001, Harrah’s was awarded CIO’s coveted Enterprise Value Award due to John’s leadership of Harrah’s loyalty program and in September of 2007, John was elected to the CIO Magazine Hall of Fame.

John holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and a master of science degree in applied mathematics, both from North Carolina State University.

Robert Austin’s Biography

Robert Austin is Associate Professor of Technology and Operations Management at the Harvard Business School. He teaches a second year MBA course called “Managing in the Creative Economy” and chairs the school’s executive education program for Chief Information Officers (CIOs). He is currently on a leave of absence from Harvard, teaching at the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark, where he is the Professor of Creativity and Innovation Management.

Robert’s research focuses on management of innovative and knowledge intensive activities, especially as applied in creative industries and information technology management. He has written on these subjects in five books and numerous business cases and articles including “Bridging the Gap Between Stewards and Creators” in the Sloan Management Review, co-authored with Richard Nolan, which won the Richard Beckhard Memorial Prize awarded to the authors of the most outstanding SMR article on planned change and organizational development. Also, his book, “The Adventures of an IT Leader,” co-authored with Dick Nolan and Shannon O’Donnell–an account of the a new CIO’s first year on the job–will be published by Harvard Business School Press in the spring of 2009.

Robert spent time in industry as a senior executive in a new business created by a major technology company, and as a technology manager at Ford.

Robert earned his Ph.D. in Management and Decision Sciences from Carnegie Mellon University, where his dissertation received the Herbert A. Simon Award. He holds an M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Management Science (Operations Research concentration) from Northwestern University and his unusually strong abilities as a writer about technology surely are thanks to the fact that he has bachelors degrees in not only Engineering but also in English Literature from Swarthmore College.
