Dave Smoley’s Biography

David is the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Flextronics International, a $26 billlion global manufacturing and services provider operating in more than 30 countries worldwide. Information Week recently ranked Dave as one of the top 50 global CIOs, calling him an IT leader changing the business world.

Prior to his time at Flextronics, Dave served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Honeywell’s Aerospace Electronics Systems. Dave’s extensive IT career also includes management positions with General Electric, where he most recently held the position of Director and Chief Information Officer for GE Power Controls in Barcelona, Spain.

Dave has a B.A. in Computer Science from Clemson University and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.

Ramón Baez’s Biography

Ramón is the Vice President of Information Services and Chief Information Officer of Kimberly-Clark. Ramón is responsible for leading Kimberly-Clark’s enterprise-wide information systems initiatives to support the company’s future growth and to maximize the return on its information technology investments.

Prior to joining Kimberly-Clark, Ramón served as chief information officer for Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. He previously served as chief information officer and vice president of information technology for Honeywell International Automation and Control Solutions group. Ramón began his business career at Northrop Grumman Corporation. Over the course of 25 years, he assumed increasing responsibility for information services and data management, leading to his being named chief information officer for its electronic systems sensors sector.

Ramón is a member of the Information Technology and Operations Management (ITOM) Advisory Board for the SMU-Cox School of Business, and in 2009, he was elected by the Texas State Senate to serve as a director for the Department of Information Resources for the state.

Ramón holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of La Verne in California.

Karl Salnoske’s Biography

Karl is the Executive Vice President, Service Delivery, & Chief Information Officer of GXS, a global B2B e-commerce integration solutions provider. Karl is a seasoned IT and operational executive with a strong combination of information technology, operations, general management, and business consulting experience. Before joining GXS, Karl was the CIO at Schering-Plough, a global pharmaceutical company, where he managed a staff of over 1700 and the company’s global IT infrastructure. At Schering-Plough, he was responsible for driving change across the organization through a series of strategic business initiatives enabled by IT.

Prior to Schering-Plough, Karl was President and CEO of a start-up software company (Adaptive Trade). He also served as Vice President in IBM’s Global Services division where he was responsible for e-business services, including the B2B and EDI services. At IBM, Karl co-led the team that developed the Ariba/i2 relationship to jointly enable electronic marketplaces. As a General Manager in IBM’s Software Group, Mr. Salnoske developed and launched IBM’s e-commerce software suite, WebSphere Commerce.

Before joining IBM, Karl was a consultant at McKinsey & Company, Director of Network Management Products at Telenet, and a Manager of Systems Development at Exxon Office Systems. Karl received a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Jorg Heinemann’s Biography

Jorg is the chief information officer of SunPower Corporation, a vertically integrated solar products and services company that designs, manufactures and markets high-performance solar electric power technologies. Jorg leads global information technology (IT), shared services (SSO) which includes customer care, and Downstream Software Services (DSS) organizations. He drives the company’s strategic business process transformation initiatives and software innovation for business and customer platforms.

Prior to joining SunPower, Jorg was an executive partner at Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. During his 20-year tenure, Jorg was responsible for Accenture’s global business relationships with HP and led the Clean Tech and Sustainability Practice for Accenture’s Communications and High Technology Division. He was instrumental in driving large scale change programs for prominent high-tech companies such as Apple, Autodesk, Cadence, Hitachi Data Systems, Intuit, Sun Microsystems, and Toshiba.

Yuvi Kochar’s Biography

Yuvi is the Corporate Chief Technology Officer of The Washington Post Company. In that role, he collaborates with the major divisions of The Washington Post Company in the areas of technology strategy, architecture and Shared Information Technology Services. Under his leadership, Shared IT Services have rapidly expanded to support key Compliance, Identity Management, Security and Privacy, HR, Benefits, Payroll and Procurement processes across all divisions. The team also supports the corporate Intranet and is currently innovating in the areas of Enterprise 2.0, collaboration and flexible architectures enabling rapid deployment of new solutions to respond to the fast-evolving requirements of the company’s business units.

Prior to joining the Post, Yuvi was the CTO at Brassring (now Kenexa), a leading SaaS solution for Talent Management. Besides Brassring, Yuvi worked at technology startups in France, New York and Southern California. Bruce Besanko’s Biography

Bruce is the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Administrative Officer of OfficeMax, Inc. With revenue of approximately $8 billion, OfficeMax is a global supplier of office supplies and services with operations in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. As CFO and CAO, Bruce oversees the company’s global financial and administrative activities including controllership, tax treasury, analysis, investor relations, strategy, corporate development, procurement, compensation, internal audit, loss prevention, and financial operations.

Before joining OfficeMax, Bruce served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Circuit City Stores, Inc from 2007 to 2009. Prior to his time with Circuit City, Bruce was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Yankee Candle Company, Inc. as well as Vice President, Finance and Controller for Best Buy, Inc. He also spent time in a variety of roles with Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Atlantic Richfield Co.

Bruce has served on the Finance Executive’s Council of the National Retail Federation and has been featured in business periodicals including Forbes magazine and Harvard Business Review. He is a current member of the Chicago area “CFO Select”, an organization of principal financial officers from leading Chicago-area large public companies. He also serves on the Governing Body of the CFO Executive Summit. He has served on the boards of directors for Mass Mentoring; United Way of Western Massachusetts; and Minnesota Mentoring.

In addition to his financial experience, Bruce has served in the United States Air Force for more than 25 years, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel. In 2003, Bruce received the Air Medal for numerous aerial combat missions over Iraq and Afghanistan as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Bruce received his Master of Business Administration in Finance and Strategy from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and he received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the University of Cincinnati.

Abbie Lundberg’s Biography

Abbie is a business technology analyst, advisor and professional speaker with 21 years experience reporting and commenting on the use of technology in business. Under her stewardship, CIO became the publication of record for chief information officers and all executives interested in the use of information technology for business value and competitive advantage.

Mark Settle’s Biography

Mark is the chief information officer of BMC Software. In addition to running BMC Software’s IT department, Mark is a rare CIO who makes customer calls, as he helps many of the BMC Software’s customers (who in many cases are CIOs) understand how best to leverage BMC’s offering.

Prior to his time with BMC Software, Mark served as the CIO of four Fortune 300 companies: Corporate Express, Arrow Electronics, Visa International and Occidental Petroleum, making him one of the most seasoned CIOs in the United States. Mark has worked in a variety of industries including consumer products, high tech distribution, financial services and oil & gas. During the early stages of his career, he held P&L responsibilities as the Director of a systems integration business unit within Hughes Aircraft Company.

Mark’s formal education is in the Geological Sciences. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from MIT and a PhD from Brown University. He is also former Air Force officer and NASA Program Scientist.

Mark Silver’s Biography

Mark is the divisional Chief Information Officer of Siemens Health Services, the $1 billion global health information systems solutions provider for the HealthCare sector. In that role, he focuses on increasing profit, improving productivity & reducing costs through effective knowledge systems, people, and processes.

Prior to his time at Siemens Health Services, Mark was the Chief Information Security Officer for Siemens Corporation responsible for the Americas operations. Prior to his time in the private sector, Mark held a variety of leadership positions within the Queensland government in his native Australia, including managing IT infrastructure and e-Security. He has also held senior roles in marketing, communications, and public affairs.

He is also a board member of the Geographic Society of Philadelphia, a member of the Temple University School of Science and Technology Advisory Board and part of the leadership team of the Greater Philadelphia Senior Executive Group.

Mark graduated from the Queensland University of Technology with a Master of Business (an MBA is the USA equivalent) majoring in organizational communication.

Rob Dowler’s Biography

Rob is the Corporate Chief Strategist and Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for enterprise Information Technology strategy, policy and planning, e-government, controllership and excellence/education for the Province of Ontario.

Prior to taking on his current position, Rob served as a Policy ADM in the Ministry of Government Services and in the Ministry of Consumer and Business Services. Before joining the OPS, Rob was an Urban Planner with the Corporation of the City of Ottawa. He also worked in the private sector as a Management Consultant.

Rob is a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners, a Registered Professional Planner and a Professional Land Economist.

Rob has won various awards including: the Amethyst Award for outstanding achievement; the IPAC Award for Innovative Management; the U.S. National Consumer Agency Achievement Award; two U.S. Achievement in Consumer Education Awards; the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario’s Recognition Award; the Canadian Institute of Planners National Award for Planning Excellence and a Showcase Ontario Diamond Award.

Rob is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and has served as a director on several private boards including: Tarion Warranty Corporation; the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council; the Electrical Safety Authority; the Technical Standards & Safety Authority; and the Ontario Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund.

He holds a Masters of Science degree from the University of Toronto, and an Honours B.A. from Queen’s University. More recently, Rob has successfully completed the Executive Program at York University, the Queens Public Executive Program and a Strategic Management Program at Harvard University.

Rob is married with two children. He is a keen triathlete, canoeist and runner who has successfully competed in the Boston marathon and the Canadian Half Ironman. In his spare time, Rob has coached hockey and is a keen sponsor of various charities.
