Marc Lore’s Biography

Marc Lore is the Founder and CEO of Jet, the online marketplace that will take advantage of the economics of online shopping to create a new business model promising the lowest prices on the Internet. The company officially launches the day we are broadcasting, July 13, 2015. The company has raised over $220 million in funding.

Prior to Jet, Marc was the Co-founder and CEO of Quidsi, the parent company of e-commerce websites Diapers.com, Soap.com, Wag.com and more. The company was founded in 2005 and sold to Amazon in 2011 for $550 million. Marc was also the Co-founder and CEO of The Pit, Inc., an internet market-making collectible company constructed as an alternative to eBay, which was sold to the Topps Company in 2001.

Marc has received a wide array of industry accolades, including E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year regional winner and Fortune’s “smartest people in technology;” The Sunday Times Magazine of London named him one of Britain’s “new high-tech entrepreneurs and whiz kids.” Prior to being a serial entrepreneur, Marc held various investment banking positions, including Executive Vice President of Sanwa International Bank in London, where he was head of the bank’s Risk Management Division and Vice President of Emerging Markets Risk Management at Credit Suisse First Boston.

Emerson Spartz’s Biography

Emerson is the CEO of Chicago-based Spartz Media Inc., one of the fastest growing digital media publishers with 18 websites, including GivesMeHope, OMGFacts, and Dose.

Emerson gained fame at the age of 12, when he founded MuggleNet, which was at one time the world’s largest Harry Potter website.  MuggleNet eventually attracted 50 million page views per month, and spawned the most listened to podcast in the world. Along the way, Emerson met author JK Rowling as a representative of the Harry Potter fandom.  Emerson has written a number of books related to the various sites that he has created, as well.

Emerson graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in management from the Mendoza College of Business.

Yves Behar’s Biography

Yves is a design entrepreneur and the founder of fuseproject, the San Francisco and New York based design and branding firm he established in 1999. Rich Karlgaard’s Biography:

Rich has served as the Publisher of Forbes magazine since 1998. In addition to his role at Forbes, Rich serves as an Advisor at Rocket Ventures and as a Member of the Advisory Board of Prometheus Investment Group. He is also a Co-Founder of Garage Technology Ventures LLC and currently serves on its Board of Directors, along with serving on the Boards of New EA, Intelius and MobShop.

Prior to his current role as Publisher of Forbes, Rich served as the Editor of Forbes ASAP in concert with writer and futurist George Gilder and Forbes’ CEO Steve Forbes. Prior to this role, he co-founded and edited Upside magazine and also co-founded the 6500 member business and technology forum in Silicon Valley, the Churchill Club. In addition, Rich co-founded garage.com, which later became Garage Technology Ventures, a web-based startup capital firm, in 1997 with Guy Kawasaki and Craig Johnson.

In 1997, for his efforts in founding the Churchill Club, Rich was named a Northern California winner of the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” award. In 1998, he was named to Upside magazine’s Elite 100 in the computer and communications industries. Rich also serves as a regular panelist on Forbes on FOX and as an analyst on CNBC’s The Kudlow Report. Nic Borg’s Biography

Nic is the co-founder and chief product officer of Edmodo, a private K-12 classroom communication tool that’s drawn 15 million teachers and students together in only four years. On the secure platform teachers and students can collaborate, share content and access educational apps to augment in-class learning. Edmodo’s goal is to create social media tools that help teachers engage students and to make sure every school in the world has access to them.

Before launching Edmodo, Borg worked at Kaneland High School in Maple Park, IL for seven years, building web-based tools and learning management solutions.

Salman Khan’s Biography

Sal is the founder and executive director of the Khan Academy, a not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing a free world-class education to anyone, anywhere.

As of December 2013, the Khan Academy channel on YouTube attracted 1,553,000 subscribers and the Khan Academy videos have been viewed over 334 million times. In 2012, Time named Sal in its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Forbes magazine featured Sal on its cover with the story “$1 Trillion Opportunity”.

Prior to founding Khan Academy, Sal was the portfolio manager at Khan Capital Management and a Senior Analyst at Wohl Capital Management. He also spent time at MVC Venture Capital, Scient Corporation, and Oracle Corporation.

Sal received his MBA from Harvard Business School where he was president of the student body. He also holds a Masters degree in electrical engineering and computer science, a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering and computer science, and a Bachelors degree in mathematics from MIT where he was president of the Class of 1998.

Daphne Koller’s Biography

Daphne is the co-founder and co-CEO of Coursera, an education company that partners with many of the top universities and organizations in the world to offer courses online for anyone to take, for free.

She is also the Rajeev Motwani Professor in the Computer Science Department and the Oswald Villard University Fellow in Undergraduate Education at Stanford University. She is the author of over 180 publications.

Daphne pioneered in her classroom many of the ideas that are key to Stanford’s massive online education effort.

Among the many awards she has won include a 2004 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, and she was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 2011.

Daphne has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a PhD from Stanford University.

Sebastian Thrun’s Biography

 Sebastian is the CEO and cofounder of Udacity, a for-profit education company offering massive open online courses or MOOCs. Prior to his time at Udacity, Sebastian was a Google VP and Fellow, where he was involved in the creation of Google Glass, the driverless car initiative, and Google Street View. Among his academic posts, Sebastian has been a Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University.

Sebastian led development of the robotic vehicle Stanley, which won the 2005 DARPA Grand Challenge, and which has since been placed on exhibit in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History.

In recognition of his contributions, Sebastian was elected into the National Academy of Engineering and also into the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 2007. Fast Company selected Sebastian as the fifth most creative person in business in the world.

Aaron Levie’s Biography

Aaron is the CEO and co-founder of Box, a leader in online file sharing and cloud content management for individuals and enterprises alike. Aaron created Box (originally called Box.net) as a college business project with the goal of helping people easily access their information from any location. Box was launched from Aaron’s dorm room in 2005 with the help of the current CFO of the company Dylan Smith. Aaron is the visionary behind Box’s product and platform strategy, which is focused on incorporating the best of traditional content management with the most effective elements of social business software.

 

Aaron studied business at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California before taking a leave of absence, which is likely to be a permanent one, he has acknowledged.
