About the Guest

Uri Levine

Co-Founder and Former President of Waze; Author
Uri Levine is most famously the former president of Waze, a company he co-founded in 2007. In June of 2013, Google purchased Waze for more than $1.1 billion, just six years after its founding. In the decade since, Uri has been an investor and a builder of startups, and a teacher, as he likes to put it. He's the author of a new book, Fall in Love with the Problem, Not the Solution: A Handbook for Entrepreneurs, a topic he's well equipped to address as a former entrepreneur, and now an advisor to so many of them.

Episode Overview

761: Uri joins Peter High in our latest episode to discuss his experience founding Waze and the insights from his latest book, Fall in Love with the Problem, Not the Solution: A Handbook for Entrepreneurs. He describes his calling as being a teacher of others and shares what he sees as the common denominator across his career journey. From founding to the company’s eventual acquisition, Uri tells the story of Waze’s evolution, its collaboration and competition with tech giants like Google and Microsoft, and how Waze exemplifies disruptive innovation. He also shares the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, why the process of firing an employee is more important than hiring, and the three main categories of “users”, among other topics from his book. Finally, Uri looks ahead at the future of disruptive technology trends and what he is keeping an eye on in the market.
